Trump Aide Vilified for Saying McCain Is Irrelevant Because ‘He’s Dying Anyway’ [VIDEO]

This week we reported that Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), who is at home in Arizona battling terminal brain cancer, urged the Senate to reject the nomination of Trump’s pick for CIA director because of her stance on torture.

White House aide Kelly Sadler responded to McCain’s opposition to Haspel by saying Thursday morning that is stance is irrelevant: “It doesn’t matter, he’s dying anyway,” a White House official told CNN.

Sadler is a former opinion editor for The Washington Times. At the White House, she focuses on illegal immigration, often sending out press releases to highlight stories about the issue to reporters, according to The Hill.

Cindy McCain, John McCain’s wife, was quick to react to Sadler’s comment:

The senator’s daughter, Meghan McCain, who co-hosts ABC’s The View, retweeted her mother’s comment, and said she would address Sadler’s remarks on her show today.

Sadler herself reportedly called Meghan McCain on Thursday to apologize for the remark, though her response has not been disclosed.

When asked about the comment, a White House official wouldn’t address Sadler’s remark directly, but said,

We respect Senator McCain’s service to our nation, and he and his family are in our prayers during this difficult time.

The reaction to Sadler’s “joke” received near-universal condemnation:
